5/30/2023 0 Comments Language truth and logic![]() ![]() ![]() The Logical Positivists claim that there are two forms of meaningful propositions, the first are Analytic statements which are a priori and are true by definition so are tautological, so an Analytic statement could be 'a square has four sides', along with the whole of mathematics being Analytic. They held that certain things are beyond language and cannot be meaningfully expressed in words, so therefore language is only meaningful if it is kept to what is within human experience, and if we go beyond the realms of experience then we venture into nonsense. The Vienna Circle were are group of Logical Positivists who held that statements could only be considered meaningful if they are empirically verifiable or tautological. ![]()
